| From the flag of Blair 'Witch' MacDonald (Flagger since 2000) |
I met Luke whilst watching Australia play cricket in New Zealand during the tour of Feb/March 2000. I am now living in Perth, Western Australia, however, I was at that point a resident of Glasgow Scotland and merely following the cricket during my backpacking years. Although the concept of ‘Waving the Flag’ had not then been officially formulated I am sure that the seeds of the idea had firmly been planted as both Luke and 2 of his other friends invited me to join them in travelling around New Zealand in order to watch the Australian Cricket team perform and also to experience the delights of the country which happened to be hosting the sport.
It is essentially this concept that has continued to evolve through the years and has given the ‘Flag’ experience, in my opinion, such an important place in many people’s hearts. Luke has provided the means to bring like minded Cricket supporters together in order to appreciate the game of cricket and then to enjoy the magnificent environment where the series’ are often played. I have been fortunate to travel with Luke and also assist him on a couple of his more successful tours. I have been part of the ‘Flag’ experience from South Africa to the West Indies and have always left each trip with many unforgettable experiences and have met a great number of very good lifelong friends.
Throughout the years I have known and travelled with Luke he has been a fantastic ambassador to Australian Cricket and also to the wider game.Waving the Flag can provide true cricket supporters with a chance to follow the Australian team to a wide variety of locations throughout the world, safely, comfortably, and enjoyably. I have no doubt that Luke’s extensive experience could only benefit the Cricket Australian Family.
