| From the flag of Fiona Stanley & David Air (Flaggers since 2004) |
We were looking to go to India in 2004 to watch what we were hoping would be a great series of cricket. As we had never toured overseas for cricket before we did some research on the Net. We found the other two operators who toured in 2004 to be not for us. One was too high end and expensive. The other seemed to be a beer and party tour rather than a cricket tour. We then found Luke’s website… wavingtheflag.com and what a great find it turned out to be.
We decided to tour with the Flag but were still not sure if we would like the tour group concept so only booked the first two tests and thought we would travel independently for the last two tests in India. After the first test, we knew we had made the right decision touring with the Flag. By the second test in Chennai, we had Luke book the rest of the tour for us. His flexibility in allowing us to continue with the tour ensured we had a great Indian experience.
The other Flaggers were people we wanted to be with. They were people from 18 to 70 years who were just as passionate about cricket as us. Luke’s passion for the game was infectious and the Flag tour was organised to a level that we wanted. We didn’t want someone to hold our hand, but rather give us help to experience cricket in other countries.
Luke did this admirably. His knowledge of every venue through research trips and previous tours made sure that our tour was refreshingly easy and all we had to do was concentrate on supporting Australia! We didn’t feel like we were part of a structured tour, we had flexibility and felt like we were doing our own “thing”. Without Luke our ability to follow the Australian Cricket Team overseas would be much harder.
We have since flagged the ICC Super Series in 2005 and West Indies in 2008 for an awesome 7 weeks including 3 Tests and 5 One Dayer’s. Our next flag experience will be India 2008 for one Test in Bangalore.
We recommend The Flag to anyone who is not looking for an expensive high end tour or a 24/7 beer swilling tour. The Flag is the perfect mix of cricket, pubs, Luke, culture and friendship.
