| From the flag of Darren 'Gluv' Glover (Flagger since 1999) |
I have toured extensively with The Flag including the West Indies 2003, South Africa World Cup 2003, India 2004, New Zealand 2005 and South Africa 2006, plus several domestic summers here in Australia. I have known Luke since 1999 when we met in England during the World Cup, and have always found him to be passionate about the game, as shown by his attendance at over 100 test matches to date.
Having assisted Sparrow on several tours I have been privileged to see first hand the amount of effort that goes into putting a tour package together by him, with the good of the game and the enjoyment by all, always at the forefront of his planning. The tours are focused on providing a ‘total experience’ of each country visited, not only supporting the cricket, but also providing the opportunity to indulge in the local lifestyle.
The tour packages are designed to be affordable and also provide the ‘Flaggers’ with the knowledge and confidence to embark on their own exploration of the host nation to maximize their travel experience. Waving The Flag provides the opportunity to travel the world and support Australian cricket in a family like environment, with many Flaggers choosing to tour again with Luke because of this fact. Pre tour dinners and social events allow ‘old’ Flaggers to catch up and ‘new’ Flaggers to feel part of the family, and this atmosphere continues onto the terraces, where everybody is encouraged to support the game in a sportsmanlike manner, and have a good time.
Each trip is carefully researched by Luke, with all accommodation personally inspected by him before any tour packages are put together. This ensures that the Flaggers are well catered, for with location and safety paramount. I have met hundreds of people and made many life long friends and had some of the best times of my life, none of which probably would have been possible without Sparrow and Waving The Flag. He is a genuine guy and one which I feel privileged to call a mate, and I wish Luke and the Flag every success for the future.
