| From the flag of Jason Gillespie Australian Test Cricketer |
I have been fortunate enough to have known Luke Gillian (AKA Sparrow) for the best part of a decade through his following of the Australian cricket team around the world. Over time we have developed a great friendship. He has been 'waving the flag' supporting Australian cricket with his tour group for many years now and it has always been a highlight to see Luke and his 'Flaggers' cheering us on through the great moments of Australian cricket and also the disappointing times when we have not been able to get a win.
A real highlight of my career was in Bangladesh in 2006 when I managed to make some runs and upon raising my bat, was greeted with the 'Flaggers' cheering and clapping away with Luke front and centre with his flag and well travelled cricket bat grinning from ear to ear. The 'Flaggers' also sent me messages of congratulations to the hotel which made the game just that little bit more special. 'Waving The Flag' is for true cricket fans, and in the future I'm certainly looking forward to spending a game or 2 in the grandstand with Luke having a 'cup of tea' supporting Australian cricket.
| THE FLAG MISSION|
“The purpose of Waving The Flag is to encourage more people to travel globally to support and express their pride in Australia and Australian Cricket in a fashion that does not isolate from the cultural or sporting influences that make each cricket tour unique, whilst promoting and maintaining positive social and sporting relations between Australia and the countries we visit.”
