| From the flag of Jason Hess (Flagger since 2008) |
In 2008 I had the pleasure of attending three test matches in India with Waving The Flag; my first Flag experience. There are three things that stood out for me during this fantastic tour:
Firstly, Luke “Sparrow” Gillian, proprietor and tour leader, is a fair-dinkum decent bloke who arranges these tours not for commercial gain, but because he loves his cricket and genuinely wants to share the experience with fellow appreciators of the game. He goes out of his way in preparation to make sure that everyone can watch the game in comfort from the best vantage point at each ground. You really couldn’t ask for a better day at the cricket than with The Flag.
Secondly, I met a bunch of great people on the tour; boys and girls from all over the world and from all walks of life. In a few short weeks I made friends with people I know I will enjoy the company of again inside (and outside!) cricket grounds in Australia and around the world. I have to say all of the folks on the tour, some experienced Flaggers, some new like me, were goodhearted, fun and friendly people and it was a pleasure to share the journey with them.
And, finally, Luke has struck the perfect balance between attending the cricket and getting into fun activities with the group away from the cricket. The beauty is you can get involved as much or as little as you like in the activities that are arranged in the evenings and between tests. You don’t pay for things you are not interested in which keeps the whole tour to a reasonable price.
Luke is to be congratulated on a great concept which is beautifully executed by himself and his support staff. If there is one simple endorsement I can give it is this... Waving the Flag has a new loyal customer who will be back for more. Thanks Luke!
