| From the flag of Jason Hess (Flagger since 2008) |
I did my first Waving the Flag tour in India in 2008. I wrote a testimonial at the time that described the things I thought stood out most about doing a Waving the Flag tour; namely Luke’s magnificent organisation and execution of the tour, the lovely Flaggers I met while I was there, and right level of extra activities and the overall affordability of the trip. At the time I said the most ringing endorsement I could give is that I would come back for another tour. Well, I did...
I've just returned from the Jumbo Jolly Tour of Sri Lanka. And a jolly tour it was too! Sri Lanka is an amazing country that packs plenty into quite a small island. Before the tour Luke mentioned it was his favourite tour and I now know why. It has beautiful and diverse geographies and different types of climates; warm, friendly and helpful people; and plenty of interesting tourist sites and activities.
Aside from the cricket, one highlight was a 3 night wildlife safari through the national parks. Another was re-connecting with many Flaggers I met in India three years earlier. New friendships began and old friendships continued to grow on this tour and Luke should feel proud to have created a wonderful community of like-minded people. I’ll be seeing many of them again at the MCG this summer.
You can pretty much lock me in for the next Jumbo Jolly tour when Australia return to Sri Lanka. And you can be sure I’ll be doing it with Waving the Flag. If you are thinking of heading to the Caribbean in 2012 I couldn’t think of a better way to do it than with Luke and Waving the Flag.
